This site was a temporary measure in hopes that Enty would fix the format of Crazy Days and Nights. Since that is not happening, Outtie will be moving to a permanent home at Anarchy Gossip.
Anarchy Gossip will go live on Monday, November 17th, at 6am PST. There will be more original content, and the occasional original blind item, which will not be made up from the Daily Mail. The will also be blind items from around the web.
In order to make this a smooth transition, both websites will be up and running during the week of November 17th while you get used to the new website and posting schedule. Friday, November 21st, will be the last day that CDaN Companion will be updated.

It took a while for the trolls to find their way here. I was so hoping they would keep wasting their sad lives at CDaN instead of ruining good sites like this one.

DeleteI think it has been a regular CDAN commenter who also has access to Hollywood gossip. I've never been especially privy to the Hollywood scene, but I do know that DC gossip is rampant. If Hollywood is anything like it, the truth swirls around and all of the "in" crowd know that what publications are printing is not the truth. But the truth is always there. There is ALWAYS a housekeeper, boyfriend, one night stand, SOMEONE who knows what is going on. They tell one person, who tells three of their besties, who each tell three more besties. Soon, the truth is all over town, BUT NOT IN THE PAPERS.
Papers print what benefits them.
I absolutely believe this was an innocent start-up, but when faced with such strong opposition (I was surprised--the smart business move by Enty would have been attempting cooperation), Outtie decided to created his/her own blog. It's not really all that difficult.
I hope s/he makes a ton of money and I have a feeling that with the commenters behind him/her, it's going to be a great site.
CDAN was never about the blinds for me. It was about the great conversations and insider gossip that would occaisionally pop up. I hope for more of that.
Keep up the GREAT work Outtie. If you are who I think you are, I am a big fan.

I'm a fairly cynical/suspicious person by nature, but I never thought that Outtie was a rival gossip columnist that swooped in to take advantage of the Entern's colossal fuck-up. DeleteI have a quick question. I've posted on enty's new site exactly once, when it first began, to tell him I wouldn't visit often because it was so bad. Today I went over to read the comments on the MV thread. When I went back a 2nd time (on my phone) after a second a big black thing appeared in the middle of the screen and blocked everything but the bottom line and a little on each side. I visit around 40-50 sites a day on my phone and I've never seen this. Am I being blocked? I didn't post on that thread.

DeleteThe site is most likely owned by a corporation or llc and he has an attorney as a registered agent. The attorney could also hold the corporation in trust. It is pretty easy to "hide" ownership of a corporation if it's not publicly traded. The new enty's threats of a lawsuit were most likely empty and just used as a scare tactic. It would not go any further than a C&D letter. Because even if the new enty managed to avoid giving up their identity in a lawsuit, the history of the site would be scrutinized and the sale of the site and ad revenue, etc., would have to be provided during discovery. I suspect that the site has been sold at least twice; once about three years ago before the nypost article came out. The tone of the blog had changed drastically for at least 6 months prior and I think the original Enty had gotten that story for publicity and more cash in the buyout. I remember he screwed a lot of people when he sold. Kristy from wineandsass used to write for cdan and a lot of people were writing for him for free or basically peanuts and when he sold it, he didn't give them a dime. The second person, I think, has sold it again and the new person is just trying to squeeze every last dime out of it. I've been reading the site since the MV conception, although I have not really commented in years. I'm not sure if Jax was the one who bought it or one of the people who got screwed over, but she was just soooo effing annoying I couldn't stand it. And then when I started saying that there was a new Enty, everyone called me a troll and told me to leave. But I still read and comment sporadically. It is the funniest thing that the CDAN website that was so outdated even back in 08 maintained the same layout for years and now the new owner, instead of upgrading it, basically has a dialup era website.

I admit, the website, the twitter account, and both of the Facebook pages are done in such a way that it's hard to see the changes unless you look really carefully. I'm glad that you and other long timers continue to confirm what many of us relative newbies can't see for sure (I started reading in 2008 I think)

To all CDAN and Companion posters/lurkers, past, present, future, clique or not clique, I have come back to CDAN all these years because of the commenters, even the ones I disagreed with or 'didn't like' or chose to scan right past. I hope that most of the old grudges can be buried next week at the new site (except for the few trolls who really deserve it) and perhaps we can remember that it's just the internet and get back to distracting ourselves with idle, mostly friendly chit chat about things that really aren't that important in the long run, but are fun nonetheless. :)

Enty rolls out the new site, it tanks immediately. Then, CDAN Companion pops up looking exactly like the old site. Right?
Now today, in the big MV blind, that everyone is going to read, Enty finally addresses the issues with the new site and the Companion site. A couple posts later Outtie informs us that this site will be closing as he/she is starting a new gossip blog. Me thinks this whole thing is one big elaborate ruse to increase clicks. Think about it. There were so many posts telling people that the Companion site was re-posting in the old format. If they were really monitoring and removing posts, why weren't those removed? Something smells fishy up in here.

Wow... spend 2 or 3 days doing "real" work at the office and I missed all this happening live?!? I just spent about 30 mins. on the original CDaN site and I think I'm officially done there. Looking forward to checking out Anarchy, though.

PS: To the poster who asked about reader photos... I remember submitting them to Enty usually right after (US) Thanksgiving so it's possible he/she/they aren't looking for them yet. And I like the theory that OG Enty is behind the Outtie persona. In fact, it makes a lot of sense.
I am always here and nearly never comment. Thank Christ for Outtie, whoever you are, for making the "new and improved" CDAN readable. That site was wedding killing me-which is hard to say because I've been following Enty basically since the beginning. Whoever has posited the theory that Enty is Outtie, it's a fun theory. Doesn't matter if it's true though-the fun over at CDAN is definitely gone, as is the real Enty. See y'all over on Anarchy on Monday! Peace Outtie, CDAN!

DeleteThink about it - if he sold his site (like most of us believe he did), he probably did so because he was done. Posting every 15 minutes, for hours on end, even if it's programmed ahead of time, is a major time suck.
I find it hard to believe that he would get right back in the game and create a mirror site, that would then cause a mass exodus from the original. Seems counter-intuitive to me.
I agree with Sherry - it's great to see more people joining in the conversation. I hope more people will be participating on Anarchy Gossip, and that it doesn't seem cliquey.

ReplyDeleteI don't really care about the drama for the most part, I just want a site that's easy to read and easy to comment if the impulse arises.
I don't think you can tell who's posting over there..the first week I made 4 comments about the new site..not nasty, just honest..and used different screen names for each. All were posted. Ah well, as a longtime reader and sometimes poster I do miss the old site, but wish Outtie lots of luck!

ReplyDeleteI kind of think the new cdan was mr x's new site. Things kind of got shady when he was "testing out" his blinds for a new site, then a few months later boom a new cdan. Also the blind gossip lover in me wants to think the changing of hands is to ted c, please, please pretty please be outtie. You know, since he got fired for "outing" someone. Plus I like anarchy anyways.

It is just so gross that the company that owns and operates the website ("Enty") is trying to act all folksy as if this is about computer glitches when it is all about slapping loads of ads on each page to quadruple profits.

ReplyDelete282 comments on the 'companion site' post. Far and away more than any post since the reformat.
From my point of view, the extreme nastiness of some of the comments is hard to understand - why get so worked up because some people don't like the new format and express their opinion about that? (I have some theories on that, however, I will keep them to myself). I meet people every day whose opinions are different than my own, I don't get personally offended about it. There is a reason why we are 'individuals'.
I do think that the vile personal insults going on there is unnecessary and immature. I've seen several of that kind of to-do on CDAN before and was turned off by it. That's one of the reasons why I commented so little, I didn't want to say the "wrong" thing and get slammed. It's a fluffy little internet gossip site, why all the drama?
I will be moving to the new site, regardless of any format fixes that might eventually occur on CDAN.

I don't know if all the outrage was really over the design of the site itself or the really lame/awful blinds and reveals. The CDAN site has always been terrible. That's why I use Feedly. I only have problems with the site when I access it from Feedly. It used to direct me to a mobile version of the site but now it directs to the site itself which is clunky.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, CDAN is an example of a horrible site rollout with no careful thought at all. I bet it was done on the cheap. It certainly seems that way.
As for CDAN, your site is only as good as the content you produce. Forever discussing celebrities who hit their peak in the 80s/90s and haven't been relevant since then won't work. What was somewhat scandalous back then is blasé now. You have to work harder.
@Gina, the person on CDaN who keeps saying I'm Outtie and calling me a stupid b* has issues most likely relating to lack of sleep. I'm not Outtie (I'd totally cop to it if I was, Outtie is awesome sauce) and the new website isn't mine (but I'll be there with bells on!).

DeleteHahaa what a shitshow, I just went into CDAN 2.0 to see if my reader photo was still there and what a mess. There is a permanent link to reader photos at the top, see it? Well, I made it slowly thru the first page and it was agonizingly slow to put it mildly. As I didnt see mine yet, I went to page 2 and the format of the site just collapsed and shit is overlapping everywhere, pages missing and suddenly out of order and the photos wont load up at all. I'm so done over there and want my photo off but I guess I can live with it being there since you cant find it anyway.
